School Resource Officer

Detective Matthew Savitsky 

On September 2022, Detective Matthew Savitsky began his first tour as a School Resource Officer in the Tenafly Public School system. Detective Savitsky is the third officer in the Tenafly Police Department to be assigned to the position. He follows Detective Max Werner who held the assignment since 2019. Detective Savitsky will mainly share his time between the high school and middle school and will visit the grammar schools on a random basis, or when needed. 

Responsibilities

Some of his responsibilities include assisting school administrators with implementing school procedures and policies, assisting with safety procedures, and conflict resolution and guidance to students. Detective Savitsky in conjunction with the appropriate school personnel will conduct presentations on;

  • Bullying
  • Cyberbullying
  • Drug Awareness
  • Individual Rights
  • Motor Vehicle Traffic Laws
  • Scams
  • Sex Crimes and Any Other Topic the School System Sees Fit to Present to the Student Body

He will also attend some after-school and evening events that the department or school administration deem necessary.
