Employment Opportunities
Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), also known as the “New Jersey First Act, ” all persons newly hired by the Borough on or after September 1, 2011, shall have 1 year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Exemptions may be granted on the basis of critical need or hardship.
BOROUGH ADMINISTRATOR
Borough form of government of some 15,000 residents. A municipal workforce of 150 full and part time employees operating within a 2023 $30 million dollar general budget, a $5 million dollar capital program and with a Moody’s bond rating of “AAA”.
The Mayor and Council seek a local government management professional with a minimum of 3-5 years of professional public sector experience or equivalent private sector experience of high integrity with substantial knowledge of municipal operations and strong communications, problem solving, contract management, human resources and grant writing skills. This position may be called upon to handle all human resources functions for the Borough. The Governing Body also seeks a partner who possesses well-developed interpersonal and problem-solving skills to lead and manage an excellent municipal team by example. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, with a preference for an advanced degree in public administration or related field. Compensation DOQ/E.

Part Time-Code Enforcement Officer
Tenafly Borough is seeking a candidate for 20 hrs/wk, in a flexible work schedule. Under direction performs varied types of field and office work involved in enforcing residential and commercial compliance with various municipal ordinances. The candidate must be able to read and write English and have good verbal skills, a valid NJ Driver’s License, basic computer skills, and the ability to provide excellent customer service. Familiarity with Bergen County is a plus. Knowledge of Mitchell Humphrey code enforcement program is preferred. Prior municipal experience desired. Must be available for some evening and weekend hrs. PARKS & RECREATION GROUNDSKEEPER (FULL OR PART TIME)
Under the direction of the Director of Recreation, assists in supervising and maintaining all town Park, Athletic and Recreational facilities. Seasonal/daily clean-up, grooming, lining, and maintenance of Borough owned fields. Assists in set-up and clean-up of all Recreation special events and Summer Camp. Monitors rules, permits, regulations, safety and litter. Bulk supply pick-ups at stores and all other vendors. Field and facility maintenance experience or closely related field required. MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR OF BUILDINGS
The Borough of Tenafly seeks a Maintenance Supervisor of Buildings. Under direction, supervises and coordinates workers' activities in maintaining and repairing the physical structure of buildings and utility systems, and maintaining buildings and grounds in a clean, orderly condition; does other related duties. Applicants should be prepared to perform duties in all weather conditions. Hours are from 7:00am – 3:00pm, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Must be available for overtime. Two (2) years of experience in work involving custodial, repair, and maintenance of building and grounds, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity. SUPERVISOR, DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
The Borough of Tenafly, Bergen County is searching for a Supervisor, Department Of Public Works. Reporting to the Director of Public Works, the Supervisor's responsibilities include but are not limited to supervising and directing employees engaged in the daily construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of any combination of multiple public works facilities. The Supervisor has full responsibility and control of work operations and subordinates in the Department. Applicants should be prepared to perform duties in all weather conditions and work extended hours as required while addressing emergencies or storms. This position is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Eight (8) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sewer, trees, parks, recycling, sanitation, or other public work facilities or similar heavy construction or maintenance work, or equivalent related experience; five (5) years of which shall be in a supervisory capacity. PER DIEM DRIVER SENIOR CITIZEN VAN TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM
Tenafly has an opening for a Per Diem van driver for a Senior Citizen Van Transportation Program. All Bergen County trips originating in Tenafly by schedule Monday through Friday. Applicants must possess a NJ driver’s license with no violations and demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Per Diem employees supplement department staffing needs, with a minimum of 4 hours per shift scheduled. Pay: $18.50 per hour, no benefits. DPW DRIVER/LABORER
The Borough of Tenafly is seeking a driver/laborer to work within the Department of Public Works. Responsibilities include but are not limited to manual labor, recycling, road maintenance, sewers, buildings and grounds, vehicle maintenance, grass cutting and snow plowing.
