The Modification Access Project (MAP) provides partial funding to improve access in the homes of Bergen County residents with disabilities. Examples of renovation projects include ramps, widening of doorways, roll-n showers, lifts, and automatic door openers. MAP can also help pay for professional evaluations, material and labor.
Special Needs Assistance Program (SNAP)
The Special Needs Assistance Program (SNAP) assists with the acquisition of adaptive equipment and devices. SNAP funding can be used to purchase items and to obtain services intended to enhance independent living. Medical and non-medical assistive devices covered under SNAP could also significantly increase day-to-day functioning. Bath benches, walkers, hearing aids, automobile hand controls, and wheelchair rentals are a sampling of the assistive technology SNAP covers.
Although funding limitations exist through both programs, MAP and SNAP can reduce or eliminate dependency and make it possible for people with disabilities to lead full and productive lives. If you would like more information on either of programs, contact Maria Valentin at (201) 996-9100 ext. 18 or 996-9424 (TDD).
MAP and SNAP are funded through the Bergen County Department of Human Services and Bergen County's United Way.
