| Board of Health The Board of Health is comprised of volunteers appointed by the Mayor and Council. The purpose of the Board of Health is to establish policy and oversee the professional health staff in the provision of the best ad most efficient tasks of protecting the health and well being of the citizens of Tenafly. These volunteer residents include medical professionals as well as a mix of individuals from a broad spectrum of the community. The Board of Health oversees a full-time Registrar of Vital Statistics and Administrative Assistant and a full-time Public Health Nurse at the Health Office located in the Municipal Center. Regular meetings of the Board of Health are held at 7:30 p.m. in the Municipal Center on January 17, April 17, June 19, September 18, and November 20. The Board of Health contracts for the services of a Health Officer and a Registered Environmental Health Inspector from the Mid-Bergen Regional Health Commission in River Edge. Available services Personal Health Services. The Tenafly Health Department offers health consultation to adult residents. The services are performed by professional staff of the Health Awareness Regional Program (HARP) of Hackensack University Medical Center. The Adult Health Center provides individual and private health assessment and consultation of the physiological, social, and psychological well being of the participants. Health consultation focuses on blood pressure assessment and promotion of a healthy "Lifestyle". Health education is given in relation to the needs of the client. Individuals are referred to their physicians for specific health conditions. No appointment is necessary. Tenafly Senior Center, 20 S. Free cancer screenings for women aged 40 and over and free Pap tests for women aged 18 and over who qualify are available from Bergen County Department of Health Services. Call 201-599-4116.
