Health Office/Vital Statistics

The Board of Health oversees a full-time Registrar of Vital Statistics and Administrative Assistant and a full-time Public Health Nurse at the Health Office located in the Municipal Center.  Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.   Contact the Health Office at 201-568-6100, ext. 5511 for questions regarding available services.

Regular meetings of the Board of Health are held at 7:30 p.m. in the Municipal Center on January 18, April 19, June 21, September 20, and November 15. 

The Board of Health contracts for the services of a Health Officer and a Registered Environmental Health Inspector from the Mid-Bergen Regional Health Commission in River Edge. 

Available services

Personal Health Services.  Health consultation and blood pressure on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday by appointment between 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. and the last Wednesday of the month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Tenafly Senior Center, except July and August, by appointment only.

Child Health Conference.  Health assessment and immunizations for uninsured children under 6 years of age by appointment at Englewood Hospital or New Milford Health Department.  No charge.

Cancer Detection Services.  Bergen Regional OutPatient Department cervical, breast, prostate and colorectal cancer testing for uninsured and underinsured women and men.  Call 201-599-6114 for an appointment.

Cancer Screenings for Women.  Free cancer screenings for women aged 40 and over and free Pap tests for women aged 18 and over who qualify are available from Bergen County Department of Health Services. Call 201-599-4116. Free mammograms and low-cost Pap test for women aged 40 and over who qualify are available from Encore (Plus) of the YWCA of Bergen County. Call 201-487-2224.

Public & Environmental Health Services.  Inspections of retail food establishments and investigations of complaints.  Contact Health Office.

Poison Information & Hotline.  Call 800-222-1222

Vital Statistics. Marriage licenses, birth, death and marriage certificates.  Contact Health Office.  Complete an Application for Vital Statistics Record Form.

Animal Control. All dogs and cats must be licensed and vaccinated against rabies.  Complete a Registration Form for dogs or cats.  Report dog or animal bites to the Police Department immediately.
