Elections
The Borough Clerk is the Chief Registrar of Voters who are citizens who reside within the Borough. As the local Election official for Primary, General and School elections, citizens can contact the Clerk's office to check the status of their voting eligibility, the voting district that covers their address, and other election questions.
A resident must be registered to vote at least 21 days prior to an election day to be eligible to vote in that election.
The Primary election is held on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in June, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. To vote in a Primary election, the voter must declare their political party affiliation with the Bergen County Commissioner of Registration at least 50 days prior to the Primary election. Postcards are available at the Office of the Borough Clerk for notification purposes to the County. Interested voters should be aware that the deadline is strictly enforced.
The General election is held on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The General election does not require notification of political party affiliation.
The Tenafly public schools are classified as a Type II school district. This type allows the voters of the Borough to elect members of the school board and to vote on the annual operating budget of the local Board of Education. The School election is usually held on the third Tuesday in April, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., and is conducted in the same manner as the Primary and General elections.
