The Tenafly Recreation and Police Departments have teamed up with the Board of Education's Safe Routes to School program to develop the Tenafly Bike Rodeo and Learn to Ride programs.

Both the Bike Rodeo and Learn to Ride programs are designed to promote safe cycling.  The Learn to Ride program, held in April 2009 was geared toward beginner riding instruction for children in grades K-8.  Our mentors removed training wheels and helped children with their balance, starting and stopping and introduced them to basic traffic safety.  The last Bike Rodeo, held October 3, 2009 was a big success.  Over sixty children from the community came out to learn about road safety, avoiding obstacles and hazards in the road and bicycle maintenance.

Our next event is tentatively scheduled for the spring of 2010.
