(ESL) English as a Second Language

In the fall of 2006 Tenafly Recreation offered its first ESL program to adults.  Instructed by certified ESL teachers, the classes are offered in three levels:

Beginners :  Instructors will help students to acquire the language skills to be successful in everyday life.  Pronunciation will be practiced and idioms will be introduced and explained.  Basic spelling rules and sentence structure will also be covered.

Intermediate:  Instructors assist students with verb tenses, parts of speech, sentence structure punctuation and reading short passages.  Pronunciation, idioms, spelling rules and conversational English will be continued.

Advanced:  Classes will combine a study of adverbs, adjectives, sentence structure and grammar within a conversational class setting.  Paragraph and resume writing will also be included.
