The Tenafly Volunteer Ambulance Corps (TVAC) was founded in 1992. TVAC is dedicated to providing the most rapid and appropriate response to a medical emergency since 1992, the number of emergency calls that we respond to has increased to more than 1000 annually. Our membership is made up of your friends and neighbors who volunteer their time and respond 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Each of our members has completed extensive training as Emergency Medical Technicians and many of our members have also attained higher degrees of training in the use of defibrillators which we carry on our ambulances.

Services offered by the Tenafly Volunteer Ambulance Corps
- Basic Life Support for the Sick and Injured
- Transportation from hospital to home for the non-ambulatory resident from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Please call 201-568-4909 for information and scheduling.
- Ambulances available for community and school events
- Demonstrations and awareness programs for schools and community groups (by request)
Tips and Information on Dialing and giving information to 911:
If you are calling in an emergency, try to have the following information ready:
- Callback number – the number you are calling from
- Exact address – apartment number
- Appropriate entrance
- Exact patient location
- Presence of animals
- Chief complaint
- Patient(s) age/sex/medical history
- Stay on the line until the dispatcher tells you to put down the phone, or hang up
After calling in the emergency
- Keep the phone line as free as possible
- Unlock the door
- Secure pets in another room

The minimum requirements to join the Tenafly Volunteer Ambulance Corps is as follows:
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Must be a United States citizen
- A resident of Tenafly or any of the bordering boroughs of Tenafly
- Certified Emergency Medical Technician by the state of New Jersey
OR
A nationally certified Emergency Medical Technician
- Completed Medical Form by a Physician

“Ride-Along” Program
The Ride-Along program was established to give potential EMT’s field training while attending the EMT class in Paramus or Mahwah, NJ. The minimum requirements of this program are the following:
- Must be a United States citizen
- At least 16 years of age
- Certified by the American Heart Association in CPR and Defibrillation.
- The ride-along must ride a minimum of a 6-hour shift from 6 p.m. and 12 a.m. on a scheduled duty crew.
