Streets, sanitation, drainage & parks and building maintenance.
The Department of Public Works consists of 33 full-time employees and is generally divided into five areas of responsibilities:
Roads. Frank Capasso, Foreman. Responsible for maintaining 53 miles of paved municipal roads. There are 7 miles of roads maintained by Bergen County. Also included is snow plowing and salting, street sweeping, and leaf collection.
Sewers. Randy Blauvelt, Foreman. Responsible for maintaining 310,803 feet of sanitary sewer mains and one sewerage pumping station located on Jewett Court. Also maintains the Borough's storm water drainage system.
Parks. Jon Dolch, Foreman. Responsible for maintaining all Borough parks, playgrounds and athletic fields and grounds at all Borough-owned buildings and parking lots. Also maintains other Borough-owned properties such as rights-of-way.
Shade Trees. Mark Schmidt, Foreman. Responsible for maintaining all Borough-owned trees along municipal roads and trees located in parks and municipal grounds.
Fleet Maintenance. John Tietjen, Chief Mechanic. Responsible for operating central repair garage and fuel dispensing facility and maintaining municipal vehicles.
Recycling. Derek Blankenbush, Recycling Center Supervisor. Responsible for operating the Recycling/Convenience Center and Vegetative Compost Facility and also involved with recycling collection.
Building Maintenance. Joe Rossi, Supervisor. Responsible for the maintenance of Borough facilities including Borough Hall, DPW, Tenafly Senior Center and Davis-Johnson Garden Room.
