Construction Hours

Section April 3, 2012, of the Borough Code, regulates the hours during which construction is permited within the Borough of Tenafly. Borough regulations, in general, prohibit construction work on most weekends and on all legal holidays, except in emergency situations. The erection (including excavating and site preparation), demolition, alteration or repair of any building shall be prohibited other than during the hours of 7 am to 7 pm on weekdays that are not legal holidays, except in the interest of public health and safety, and then only with a permit from the Construction Code Official, who has the authority to grant limited emergency permits.

Contractor’s Employees or Subcontractors

No building contractor shall permit any of the contractor’s employees or subcontractors to report to the work site or assemble or congregate on any public street in the vicinity thereof prior to 15 minutes before the 7 am starting time nor to remain on the work site more than 15 minutes beyond the 7 pm closing time.

Holiday Schedule

From the first Saturday following the Labor Day holiday and continuing though the 3rd Saturday in May, building contractors are permitted to perform indoor and outdoor contracting work on Saturdays between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm, unless it is a legal holiday.

Weekends

Owners or occupants of property who perform the work of a building contractor on their own building or structure may perform such work on weekends. Such work on weekends shall be prohibited other than during the hours of 9 am to 6 pm and such construction activity shall not exceed the limits set forth in the Borough Noise Control Regulations, under Section 3-2 of the Borough Code.
